Welcome to Wabi Sabi Wife! You are always welcome here and I look forward to your comments and feedback.
In college I took Japanese language lessons. It actually was part of my Asian Studies major. (I majored in English and Asian Studies back in the late 80’s.) There is a term that spoke to my heart, and to my mother’s as well but that is another story. The term wabi sabi is so much a part of how I see the world.
In a lovely essay I think it is defined well here: http://nobleharbor.com/tea/chado/WhatIsWabi-Sabi.htm
“Pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. It’s simple, slow, and uncluttered-and it reveres authenticity above all.”
I am always searching for the beauty that inherently exists in imperfection. One cannot have beauty without imperfection. It is all just a matter of taste and perspective. This is a place where the focus will always be on bringing more joy, peace, and beauty to each of our wonderful lives.
Through cooking, hostessing, designing, curating, writing, envisioning, and dreaming we all bring a little more beauty to our lives recognizing that impermanence is always there.
